Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose CertainTeed Roofing
Tilehurst Roofing Los Angeles provides independent CertainTeed roofing repair and service across Los Angeles, from flat-roofed Spanish Revivals in Mid-City to steep hillside homes in the Hollywood Hills. We work daily with CertainTeed’s Landmark, Presidential Shake, Grand Manor, and Integrity lines, which means we know the specific failure patterns these shingles develop under LA’s intense UV exposure, Santa Ana winds, and coastal salt air. We’re not authorized by CertainTeed and we don’t claim to be. What we are is an independent service provider with deep hands-on experience in how these products age on Los Angeles roofs. Call (213) 674-2890 for a free estimate on any CertainTeed repair.
Why Trust Tilehurst Roofing Los Angeles for Your CertainTeed Roofing?
Our technicians have pulled apart enough CertainTeed installations across Los Angeles County, including Certainteed repair in Compton, to know what works and what fails. Greg Holloway, our owner, grew up in Reseda watching crews re-tile roofs baked by San Fernando Valley heat, then learned roofing systems formally at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending well over a decade on LA roofs ranging from torch-down apartment buildings in Mid-City to clay tile hillside homes in Eagle Rock. That experience matters when you’re dealing with a Grand Manor valley leak or Landmark granule loss. We know which fasteners CertainTeed specifies, which underlayments perform under LA’s dry-season UV load, and what can be patched versus what needs a full plane replacement. No guessing. We show up in the window we gave you, put the price in writing before we touch the roof, and leave the job site cleaner than we found it.

Common CertainTeed Roofing Problems We Fix in Los Angeles
These are the five issues we see most often on CertainTeed roofs in Los Angeles. Each one has a specific cause, and each one has a right way to fix it.
- Granule loss on Landmark shingles along south-facing planes. Los Angeles sun is relentless, and Landmark’s granule layer takes the brunt of it. After 8 to 10 years of UV exposure, we regularly see bare asphalt patches where granules have washed into gutters along the south slope. The shingle loses its UV shield, gets brittle, and starts curling. The fix depends on how much plane is affected. A few shingles are patchable. Half the slope is a replacement conversation.
- Adhesive strip failure on Presidential Shake tabs. Presidential Shake is a heavier, more dimensional shingle, which means more surface area for wind to grab. In the high heat of a Santa Ana event or a summer heat wave, the seal strips can cook and lose their bond along rake edges. Homeowners hear flapping. We caught this recently on a Westchester two-story, where a homeowner heard flapping during Santa Ana winds. We pulled back a section of Landmark along the south slope, hand-sealed the tabs with CertainTeed-compatible adhesive, and replaced cracked vent boots, buying the roof another season before a planned addition.
- Leaks at Grand Manor valley transitions. Grand Manor shingles are thick, heavily shadowed, and beautiful, but their valley transitions collect debris. Pine needles, eucalyptus bark, and leaf litter sit in the shadow lines and force water sideways under the flashing. The leak shows up in the ceiling below, and the fix is almost always at the valley, not where the stain appears. We clear the valley, repair or replace the flashing, and check the underlayment beneath.
- Nail pops and decking rot beneath Integrity shingles. Integrity is CertainTeed’s heavier architectural line, and it demands proper fastening. When the original installer used smooth-shank nails instead of CertainTeed’s recommended ring-shank, the nails work loose over thermal cycles and puncture the shingle from underneath. We see this a lot on LA homes where the original build was price-driven. The repair requires pulling the affected shingles, replacing damaged decking, and re-fastening with the correct ring-shank hardware.
- Vent boot and pipe collar failure across all CertainTeed lines. In LA’s dry, UV-heavy environment, rubber vent boots and pipe collars crack long before shingles wear out. The shingles may be fine. The rubber isn’t. This is the single most common cause of small, recurring leaks on otherwise healthy CertainTeed roofs, and it’s a same-visit repair when caught early.
CertainTeed Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
When we patch a CertainTeed roof, we match the OEM shingle color and profile so the repair blends with the surrounding plane. For Landmark and Presidential Shake roofs with 10 or more years of life left, a matched patch makes sense and saves real money. But we’ll tell you honestly when a patch will look like a patch. Faded shingles don’t match, new. Sun-bleached couriers can’t be perfectly replicated, and a mismatched patch on a visible slope is worse than no patch at all. In those cases, we quote a full plane replacement using the same CertainTeed line. For fasteners, underlayment, and flashing, we use CertainTeed-compatible or better. Never downgrading to save a nickel. If you want to know whether your roof is a patch candidate or a replacement, call (213) 674-2890 and we’ll put the facts in front of you.
Our CertainTeed Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We identify the exact failure: granule loss, seal strip debonding, valley flashing breach, nail pops, or vent boot cracking. We document everything with photos and show you what we found. No mystery. No vague “it’s the roof.”
- 2
Repair or replacement plan. We tell you the price before we touch the roof. If it’s a patch, we match CertainTeed color and profile. If it’s a plane replacement, we quote the same line. Written price. No change orders at the door.
- 3
Installation. Our background-checked, uniformed technicians handle shingle replacement, flashing repair, and vent boot replacement using CertainTeed-compatible fasteners, underlayment, and adhesives. The crew follows The Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it.
- 4
Testing. We run water tests on repaired flashing, valleys, and penetrations. We check seal strips, verify nail placement, and inspect the plane surface for anything we missed. If it leaks, we fix it before we leave.
- 5
Warranty in writing. Every repair carries a written guarantee, delivered to you before the crew leaves, not mailed later. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. A full year of documented accountability.

We service and install the full range of CertainTeed architectural and designer shingle lines: Landmark, Landmark Pro, Presidential Shake, Grand Manor, and Integrity. We also handle CertainTeed starter strips, hip and ridge caps, and ventilation products. What we stock locally depends on what LA homeowners actually have installed. We keep common Landmark colors and accessory components on hand for fast turnaround on repairs, and we source specialty Presidential Shake and Grand Manor profiles quickly for plane replacements. When you call, we’ll tell you exactly what’s available and how long it takes.
We Also Service These Brands
CertainTeed is one of seven manufacturers we work with. We also service and install GAF and Owens Corning products, along with IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. That matters because you get the product that fits your roof, your budget, and your architectural style, not whatever happens to be on our truck.
FAQs – CertainTeed Roofing Service in Los Angeles
The south-facing plane of your roof takes the full force of Los Angeles UV exposure for six to eight hours a day, every day of the year. Landmark granules are ceramic-coated for color retention, but the asphalt layer that holds them can break down under that sustained UV load within 8 to 10 years. Once the granules wash into the gutters, the asphalt is bare and begins to cure and crack. We see this pattern on nearly every Landmark roof we inspect in Los Angeles where the south slope is exposed without tree cover. The repair depends on how much of the plane is affected, and a few shingles are patchable. Call (213) 674-2890 for a free inspection and an exact quote.
Sometimes, and we’ll tell you honestly. If your Presidential Shake roof has 10 or more years of life left and the color has not faded significantly, we can match the OEM color and profile close enough that the repair blends. But Presidential Shake is a heavily shadowed, dimensional product, and older installations often show enough UV fading that a new shingle will stand out. In that case, we recommend a full plane replacement using the same line. We never want you to pay for a patch that looks like a patch. Call (213) 674-2890 and we’ll assess it.
No. Most Grand Manor valley leaks we fix in Los Angeles are caused by debris buildup in the shadow lines forcing water sideways under the flashing. We clear the debris, repair or replace the valley flashing, and check the underlayment beneath. The leak is almost always at the valley, not where the stain appears on your ceiling. A new valley is a targeted repair, not a roof replacement.
CertainTeed specifies ring-shank nails for Integrity and other heavy architectural shingles because they resist withdrawal under thermal cycling. When an installer uses smooth-shank nails instead, those nails work loose as the shingle expands and contracts through LA’s hot days and cool nights, eventually puncturing the shingle from underneath. We see this on homes where the original build cut corners on fasteners. The repair requires pulling the affected shingles, replacing any damaged decking, and re-fastening with the correct ring-shank hardware.
Yes. Our technicians are trained and equipped for steep-slope and multi-story work, including hillside homes in the Hollywood Hills and canyon areas where access is tight and fall protection is non-negotiable. Steep roofs are genuinely dangerous, and we don’t recommend anyone without training and proper safety equipment attempt a repair. We carry the harness systems, roof jacks, and ladder stabilization gear to work safely on any Los Angeles roof.
Shingle replacement on a Landmark or Integrity roof in Los Angeles typically runs $18 to $35 per square foot of repaired area, depending on slope, accessibility, and the specific shingle line. Flashing repair around valleys, chimneys, or skylights generally falls between $450 and $900 per repair. Vent boot replacement runs $175 to $350 per boot. Presidential Shake and Grand Manor work trends higher because of the heavier shingle weight and more complex installation. These are real numbers we quote from our Los Angeles work. Call (213) 674-2890 for a free estimate on your specific roof. We’ll put the price in writing before any work starts.
